Unlike collision claims, which can reduce your merit points and raise your rate, glass-only claims are completely separate. You can file unlimited glass claims per year with zero impact on what you pay for Autopac. This applies to both stone chip repairs and full windshield replacements.
Do I need to call MPI myself to file a windshield claim?
No — you don't need to call MPI at all. As an MPI-accredited auto glass shop, Redcoat Autoglass submits your eGlassClaim directly to Manitoba Public Insurance on your behalf. You just fill in our online form with your contact information and a photo of your vehicle registration. We handle all communication with MPI, including approvals, paperwork, and direct billing. The only exception is if your vehicle is under rental vehicle insurance or involves a plate transfer — in those cases, MPI asks you to contact them first.
Does MPI cover windshield replacement for leased vehicles?
Yes — leased vehicles registered in Manitoba are covered by Autopac the same as owned vehicles. However, for leased vehicles you may need to contact MPI directly first, depending on your lease agreement. We can advise you on this when you submit your claim.
How much does an MPI windshield claim cost me out of pocket?
Your cost depends on your Autopac deductible level and the type of damage. If you have $200 Plus coverage, stone chip repairs are typically free — $0 out of pocket. For windshield replacement, you pay your deductible only: $200 (standard), $300, or $500 depending on your plan. MPI pays the rest directly to us. You can find your deductible level on the white portion of your vehicle registration, on the line that reads "ALL PERILS." If you're unsure, just submit our form and we'll check it for you.
How long does an MPI windshield claim take from start to finish?
The claim process itself takes 2–3 minutes online — just your contact info and a photo of your registration. We submit the eGlassClaim to MPI same day, and approval is typically immediate for standard glass damage. The actual repair or replacement takes 60–90 minutes for most windshields, plus a safe drive-away waiting period of 30–60 minutes for the adhesive to cure. In many cases, the entire process from submitting your form to driving away is complete within the same day.
What information do I need to file an MPI glass claim?
To file an MPI auto glass claim through Redcoat Autoglass, you need only two things: your contact information (name and phone number) and a photo of your vehicle registration. That's it. You do not need your policy number, your insurance card, or any other documents. We use your registration to confirm your vehicle details and deductible level, then open the claim with MPI on your behalf. For vandalism or break-in damage, you will also need a police report number — you can file online through the Manitoba RCMP or local police if it was a non-violent incident.
Can MPI repair my windshield instead of replacing it?
Yes — MPI prefers repair over replacement when the damage qualifies, and repair costs you nothing if you have $200 Plus deductible coverage. A chip qualifies for repair if it's new damage (not previously repaired), the chip is under one inch (smaller than a loonie), there are no more than four chips total (or two in the driver's critical viewing area for chips over one inch), there are no exposed sharp glass edges, and no damage through both layers of glass. A crack qualifies if it's up to 12 inches long and doesn't reach the edge of the windshield. If we assess your damage and find repair isn't possible, we'll proceed with full replacement under your MPI claim.
Does MPI cover side window or rear window replacement?
Yes — MPI's Autopac comprehensive coverage includes all vehicle glass, not just the windshield. This includes front and rear door glass, quarter glass, vent windows, and rear windshields. The same deductible applies regardless of which piece of glass is damaged. If your side window was smashed in a break-in, you'll need a police report number before we can process the claim. For weather-related damage or stone chips on side glass, no police report is needed.
